Naturally, horse trainer Lori loves it. “My work is very dirty,” she says. “All I had to do was shake it off, and it looked great.” There’s a reason this work jacket is so easy to clean: the cotton canvas is impregnated with a special wax that repels everything – including water, abrasion and puncture. Yet because the jacket is made of 6.5-oz canvas, it’s lighter weight and more flexible than many other, stiffer waxed jackets. Traps body heat for insulation and blocks wind, too. This work jacket is a lifetime investment, and to prove it we include a can of wax, which you can rub into the fabric as needed. And since we know you need pockets, this coat's got plenty of 'em, for everything from gloves to animal treats to a cell phone.

The history and care of Waxed Cotton

History: Centuries ago, the linen sails on British clipper ships were waterproofed with a coating of linseed oil. By the mid-1800s, a faster, lighter cotton sail – still treated with linseed oil – was adopted. This lightweight, waterproof cotton proved highly functional as clothing for fisherman and farmers, too. In the 1930s, makers began impregnating tough sail cotton with paraffin wax, which made an even more water-resistant, breathable fabric that was less stiff than its ancestors. Technology continues to offer ever lighter and more comfortable waxed cotton, still one of the best outdoor fabrics around.

Care: With just a little regular maintenance on your part, this jacket will last a lifetime. If you notice uneven, shiny or dry areas on your coat – or areas where water no longer beads up on the fabric – it's a good indication that spot needs more wax. Simply follow the instructions on the bottom of the included can of wax for how to apply (you'll need a rubbing cloth and a hairdryer).

Women's Sizing Charts

Head: Measure around head, just above eyebrows. Convert inches to hat size using sizing chart.	Waist: Bend side to side to find natural waist. Measure around waist.	For best results, take measurements over your undergarments. Use a soft tape measure, and allow it to sit comfortably.
Bust: Keeping tape parallel to the floor, measure fullest part of chest with arms relaxed down at sides.	Inseam: Measure a pair of pants that fit you well. Measure from the crotch seam to bottom of pants. If you are measuring 100% cotton pants that have been washed, add 1⁄2".
Sleeve: Measure from center of back at neck to shoulder, over elbow and down to wrist.

Feels smaller than other Duluth coats I own in the shoulders. Could use FOM gussets. Otherwise, very tough, rugged and looks great. Should last a very long time.

I am very pleased with the quality of this jacket. It is substantial and warmer than I expected, but is comfortable in a range of temperatures. Good pockets.
One thing I would change: move the hand warmer pockets up and inward. They would work better if they were not so far to the side; the placement is a little awkward.
Over all very happy with this, and love DTC products in general.

Love the waxed-properties of the jacket.
Rugged, yet good looking for trips into town.

One concern is that the sleeve seam appears to be rubbing on my elbow during routine use, causing a little tenderness.

Not insulated, but roomy enough for layering in the late fall/early winter.

Two-way zipper is essential for a work coat. Shoulders were a bit snug in the small so I have the medium and it allows for a vest underneath for colder days
