Collector’s Edition Slinky has delighted kids since 1943
It took us a couple hours to write this description, because we kept playing with the Slinky! Naval engineer Richard James invented this beloved toy by accident in 1943. His wife named it after a Swedish word for “stealthy, sinuous” and when it debuted at Gimbel’s in Philadelphia in 1945, all 400 of the little devils sold out in 90 minutes. Here it is, the original metal version, in its 1945 replica cardboard box, ready to make its happy slinkity sound in your house.
