Have not used this yet but I feel confident that if I ever need to use this in an emergency, I will be a lot safer staying inside my truck on a dark lonely road, than outside hoping to find someone to give my battery a jump. Or the feeling of safety, if some stranger pulls up to help. I bought a few more of these for my young nieces in college and another female friend.

I bought one of these for each of my grown children and told them I hoped they would never need to use it. :-) Duluth Trading was very helpful in sharing other reviews of this product with me.

will not hold a large enough charge to start a small car. Would be good for starting bycycles,skateboards, downhill skis, kites and woodstoves.

Could not believe how small it was! Almost drained my own battery to test it, luckily someone at work needed a jump and this did the charm. I leery about leaving in the car, but as a "back pack" person it easily fits in there. I am hoping for some -60 weather to test on a cold battery to see if that helps with getting the car started :D

I bought two of these for my daughters for Christmas. One daughter used it on Christmas day to get a friend's car going again and it worked fine, but when she tried to recharge it while driving, after only six minutes it shorted out and smoke started pouring out of it. I don't know if we just got a lemon, or if they all do this. Beware, it's a great idea, but if they won't recharge, it's an expensive substitute for jumper cables.

A very compact unit that fits nicely under a seat. Hope I never have to use it, but am confident that it would do the job if needed.

I bought the Porta Jump just before winter last year, just in case. Fortunately I didn't have to use it but...yesterday while I was sitting outside on break a co-worker came back from trying to start her SUV madder than a hatter due to her vehicle wouldn't start. I told her to try my Porta Jump & it worked like a charm. I was so excited it really worked. It made the women we work with a believer out of Duluth Trading products and now 3 other women want to order one, just in case. I'm going to order another one for my daughter & son just in case.
