General Merchandising Manager
This is a new position and will report directly to the President of Duluth Trading Company. In this senior leadership role, the GMM will oversee multi-channel merchandising including catalog, web and retail stores. The ideal candidate for this head merchant position will be a bright, highly energetic, experienced apparel merchant with a minimum of ten years of experience. He/she will have a personal affinity for the Duluth Trading Company brand, products, markets and customers and will fully appreciate the brand image the company has created. The GMM will closely partner with the VP Marketing to monitor consumer trends and brand positioning particularly as relates to product development and merchandising.
Areas of focus for the General Merchandising Manager will be to:
- Ensure quality of new product concepts introduced and lead merchant team to evaluate size of product opportunities
- Move the business toward e-merchandising concepts
- Grow profitability of DTC’s women’s business while increasing sales
- Lead merchandising efforts for retail expansion
- Seize opportunities for streamlining processes, including development cycle time, re-organizing talents, better margin management/metrics, and developing innovative products
- Improve sales and profitability per SKU
- Improve the marketing contribution rate
Travel will include approximately one trip to Asia per year and periodic travel to five or more trade shows.
His/her career experience should include product development roles in multiple apparel categories with exposure to a variety of channels to market including catalog, web and retail stores. Specialty brand experience is highly desired.
The candidate must be familiar with offshore sourcing and supply chain management and be skilled in vendor relations. This person will have had successful responsibility for sales and gross margin management and be able to forecast and deliver the numbers. The ability to lead the department, set and achieve goals, to think strategically about the business, and thoroughly understand the DTC brand is key for success in this position.
The ideal candidate will possess outstanding drive and initiative, and be a strong team player. He/she must be skilled in motivating others and working collaboratively across the company. He/she will have a roll-up-the-sleeves style and enjoy advocating as the brand champion.
Well-developed planning and project management skills, excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and the proven ability to achieve results in a fast-paced environment are all important requirements for the position. He/she will bring a blend of creative and analytical skills, as well as strong overall business acumen.

A bachelor’s degree is required. The highest degree of integrity is expected.
