    Great fall coat

    By CJ

    from Finger Lakes, NY

    Pros

    • Good Fit
    • Lots of pockets
    • Tough material

    Cons

      Best Uses

Apparently, I got one of the last of these coats. Too bad, as it is a great fall chore coat. The material is pretty resistant to brambles, prickers and black locust tree thorns (although nothing really stops those!), and there are plenty of pockets for miscellaneous tools, parts, pieces, etc. I have ordered several items from Duluth in the Large-Tall sizing, and it has been a bit hit or miss as to how the item will fit. This coat was spot on, matching the fit of my fire hose presentation jacket.

        Excellent Jacket

        By Jax

        from NY

Got this jacket today so I can only offer my first impression. I am very satisfied with the texture, weight and overall feel of the jacket. I can barely wait for the weather to cool down so I can wear it more and possibly everyday. It feels like the last jacket I'll ever need. Well, except maybe the FH presentation jacket.

I got it in LRG size. That's what I usually get for outerwear so that I can layer my garments in the winter without feeling too tightly bundled up. This jacket is quite roomy in the body and in the sleeves. It does fit my broad shoulders perfectly. I have a very acute V-shaped torso and I was worried that the width of the jacket around my narrower midsection would look odd or poorly fitting. But the boxy cut is actually quite flattering on my shape. It drapes handsomely.

The sleeves are ultra roomy but I don't mind that because when I'm wearing a sweater under it, I'll definitely appreciate the ability to move freely. Plus the jacket does have an elastic cinch for a sharper fit when needed.

Not to mention, after a few washes in the laundry, it might shrink just a tad, but that's yet to be seen since I just got it today.

This jacket has many pockets which I always love in any type of clothing. But more especially for a jacket. I think I counted 9 pockets in all! And the pockets are huge enough to carry all the little knickknacks and gadgets that a guy needs daily without having to carry an extra backpack. HA!

The elastic cinch in the waist of the coat definitely makes the jacket very adjustable for added fit. I got the vintage olive color because I have too many brown and camel jackets and I wanted a change. I'm very pleased with the vintage olive color.

The under arm gussets are great for full range of arm motion and the additional gussets in the back makes this jacket so comfortable to wear and move around in.

The fire hose canvas material feels very tough and rugged but also not uncomfortably rigid, so one can even sleep in this jacket.

Upon first examination, the jacket seems very well made. I did not notice any issues with the zippers. The 3 inner pockets have zippers. The front closure has dual zippers that can be unzipped from the top and the bottom. The zippers are rugged and of good size for larger hands.

So far I also have no issues with the buttons. 6 total buttons. 2 on each cuff and 2 on the collar closure.

The front closure is also reinforced with snap buttons, and 4 of the 6 outer pockets have 2 snap buttons each.

The only thing missing on the jacket are the top shoulder straps that define military jackets. But that's more of an aesthetic issue. As is, the jacket is excellently functional.

But the shoulder straps if added could be made to function in other ways [hint, hint, DTC].

Overall this jacket is beefy on first sight and I can't wait to put it through some rugged action in the coming cold season.

        Fantastic Jacket

        By DerMann

        from Houston, TX

        Pros

        • Fit well
        • Lots of pockets
        • practical pockets
        • Robust zipper
        • Sturdy

        Cons

        • Buttons are a bit loose

        Best Uses

        • CASUAL WEAR
        • Great in bad weather
        • Working Outdoors

I bought this jacket towards the end of winter. It has everything I could ever want in a jacket. There are so many pockets, and they're all quite practical. I was astounded by the weight of the thing when I received it, and by all means I find it as an example of quality.

The zipper is really beefy, and you can unzip the bottom to give it some give while sitting down or accessing pants pockets.

I was slightly disconcerted by the buttons on the sleeves and collar. I've not had any problems with them, but it seems as though they're loosely fastened. There's not really any tension on them so I doubt they'll give in the near future.

Sadly, winter didn't last long enough for me to enjoy for too much time. It kept me warm the Houston winter, but it was far too warm to wear in the spring. No worries, though, I look forward to this next winter.

        Great product

        Best Uses

I use this jacket for multiple outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, etc. It is a great jacket and serves its purpose well. The first time I wore it in the rain I was surprised at how the water beaded up and rolled off of the jacket keeping me perfectly dry. I love the roomy pockets that I can put practically anything in as well as the durable material it is made out of. This was a great purchase and I would recommend it to anyone that spends time in the outdoors.

          Close, but no cigar

          By TriggerHappy

If allowed, would have given the jacket 3.5 stars.
Had my eye on it since first introduced. Bought the "sizzle".

I have several jackets and coats from Duluth and this one, sadly and surprisingly for a work jacket, is burdened with the same, overly tight armpit tailoring as the force nine jacket, which I've had for years and love in spite of that shortcoming.

In my opinion, given that, in both instances, the sleeve lengths seem a tad long for the sizing, I would have preferred a little more of the material be used for loosening up the armpit

Other than that, I do like it; seems well constructed with good size pockets, quality zipper and snaps instead of buttons.

            • Great against the wind

I can wear this on a job site framing as well as cutting timber here in Vermont and never worry about it getting shredded or torn. If I had two the other one I'd proudly wear for casual day to day wear.

I've worn this hiking and it stopped the wind and even kept me dry during the showers. Enough room to wear a sweater or fleece jacket under it for insulation. I like the toughness of the fabric.

                  • Light Rain Wind Cold

Purchased this jacket based on the recommendation of many great reviews and let me tell you, they are all true. The jacket looks great, has tons of pockets inside and out to stash you stuff and is tough as nails. I have worn the jacket in a light rain and the water beads up and rolls right off. It blocks wind completely and in temptures down in the mid thirtys, kept me warm.

Just an all-round great jacket, and it saves wear and tear on my old one, vintage 1966.
