There was this greasy spoon called The Little Derby Diner on Duluth's West end that I used to go to for my morning coffee in the winter months. And, everyday there was this older guy sitting at the same counter seat. He had that content look of someone who's seen and done it all. Next to him, on a stool, was this weathered oil cloth cotton canvas hat. Eventually I got to know Albert, he was a Pole who'd worked the iron range, the docks, and the rail yards. The hat I never forgot, it intrigued me. It looked tough and worked in, and was lined with wool. We've recreated Albert's Hat. Its crown is made of a heavy cotton canvas that's been oiled to ward off wind and rain. Inside, a thermo-poly lining will keep you warm on the coldest days. Over time as the wax softens, this hat will become a special winter friend. Sized generously for comfort.
