Winter Work Gloves

By Tom

from Manitoulin Island

Pros

  • Excellent dexterity
  • Tough as Nails
  • Warm in all weather
  • Waterproof

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Any winter outdoor work
    • ATV Riding
    • Cutting firewood
    • You name it

This is an update on the gloves I ordered in December 2012 and reviewed in January 2013. The old timers say this is the worst winter in over 30 years for snow and cold on our Island. Its April 22 and the ice is still on our lakes, so you know its been cold. These gloves are great! I wear them doing anything - cutting wood, ice fishing, ATV riding, making maple syrup - you name it. They're tough, warm, waterproof, wind proof, heat resistant and yet have amazing dexterity. If they get dirty, they wash up in no time and are supple and do not shrink. If you spend any time outside in winter working with your hands, I highly recommend them.

          Pretty darn good

          Cons

          Best Uses

          • Rough work

I do cast in place concrete construction, i.e. walls/foundations, in Minnesota. We do work in the winter months at times and it can become miserable. Typically I only use those yellow cotton chore gloves and they work great for the spring/summer/fall because they have enough durability for the cost, however when winter rolls around they fail miserably. Usually I end up putting one glove in side the other for warmth and dryness but that works for only a little while. The Duluth Trading Winterproof Work Gloves are great! They are absolutely water proof and warm, so long as your hands are somewhat warm when you put them in the gloves. They will keep your hands cold until your hands start sweating and if you are handling very cold steel like rebar all day they will not warm your hands from that either. They seem very durable, my job is pretty rough on gloves, for example I'll typically go through a pair of those chore gloves I mentioned in about a week and a half and they are completely shot when I'm done with them. The Duluth Trading Winterproof Work Gloves I bought in November and they've lasted the entire winter and I think I'll be able to use them next winter as well. Some cons for them are that you lose some dexterity in your finger tips, but no more than if you were using double gloves so I can't complain too much about that. My other big gripe is that they do not breath at all so that means while you hands stay dry from the cold elements the get soaked from sweat, but I guess that is better than freezing numb fingers. All in all I would/will purchase them again so long as the price stays cheapish.

I purchased these gloves for my son,who is a letter carrier in NE IL. He needed warmth and flexibility, having to "finger" through groups of letters to put into mail boxes. The first pair is working so well for him, he bought himself a back up pair, even though the first pair show no signs of wear yet.

I work for the railroad in Wyoming and I needed a good glove for the winter that will keep my hands and fingers warm. I climb on and off rail cars all day and after a short while, the cold goers right through these gloves. More padding in the palm area and fingers would be helpful.

These are wonderfully sturdy gloves and I would highly recommend them. We did measure my husband's hands and were surpised when they measured a large, so ordered that, too tight. Sent them back and were immediately sent an XL pair which are still snug, so could have ordered the last size available but this will suffice if he doesn't hook the velcro wrist cuffs up. We're hoping they will stretch out a little and most gloves do. Our order was handled fantastically as it always is with Duluth. These are a very good work glove and they look nice too!
