Comments about Duluth Trading Men's Dry on the Fly Nylon Cargo Pants:

I was given 2 pairs of pants for xmas. One was dry on the fly cargo pants size L x 34 length. They fit fine and I liked them so I ordered two more pairs. They were really long in the leg. I still like them a lot.

Comments about Duluth Trading Men's Dry on the Fly Nylon Cargo Pants:

I own and wear 4 pairs of Dry-on-the-Fly Cargo long pants and 2 pair of Dry-on-the-Fly Cargo shorts, this not to exclude a pair of Duluth-flex Dry-on-the-Fly Cargo long pants not part of this review by direction.

That said, need there be any further positive review testimony other than being qualified for financial counseling?

As a 5' 9" octogenarian, my inseam is 29"; and the shortest inseam dimension of these long pants is 30", constituting the need for spousal care and maintenance in the form of hemming to preclude the accordion-style pant-leg-look just above the shoe top. Regarding these pants, this is my only con. Yes, I'm nit-picky!

With the onset of aging obesity, I am afflicted with a protuberant belly necessitating the selection of a 38" waist in this pant, which elastically expands to the max yet comfortable feel. Consequently, for example, if someone might have a 37" waist size, an offered 36" waist would suffice, etc.

Whereas most men's derrieres are not anatomically expansive, this pant is tailored as such as not to have excessively redundant material affording the baggy-butt syndrome as the waist size advances. Yeah, there's that nit-picky thing again! Still, there's adequate material to afford ease of sitting without feeling confined.

The nylon material is light-weight but supple and will wear well. Should some individuals actually wish to utilize these pants as down-and-dirty work pants in hotter climates than temperate climes, the knees are afforded with double layers of support material. These pants are too nicely tailored for work venues IMHO.

As regards Dry-on the Fly label, admittedly, I have never sky-dived, base-jumped, wing-suit flown or forded a river while hiking in a pair of these pants while wet; so I am not qualified to testify whether they are truly Dry-on-the-Fly as regards performance and in what duration of flight time. Will they dry faster than cotton or fire-hose material? Does a bear do in the woods what he does? As an outdoors person and former mountain climber familiar with different materials, weather-wise, I believe that, yes, these pants wet would dry on the go in exposed areas of sun and/or wind quite rapidly.

The word cargo, in pants, implies pockets....usually pockets galore. Here, they are present and accounted for....deep slash front pockets for hands + Velcro-closure-flap back pockets. Parallel to the right-front slash pocket opening is a zippered security pocket as deep as the slash pocket overlying it. The cargo pockets have Velcro closure flaps and are equally generous in volume size....enough to accommodate an additional photographic lens or large smartphone (Samsung Galaxy Note #3). Uniquely, the cargo pockets have a zippered entry/exit access to the pocket per se located on the inner-leg side of the pocket for its full length....this for ease of access while seated as car driver or theater auditorium/other where standing to gain access may unduly call attention to oneself not desired. Initially, I thought that this feature would not be used by me. Then, I found myself to be in error. One other pocket, found by accident, is a narrow-width, Velcro-closure pocket equally deep to and behind the cargo pocket on both legs. I find this ideal for carrying my comb and a pen, really good for the latter when wearing any shirt having no pockets, whatsoever.

Yes, always there can be a caveat; and for me this relates to Duluth's verbal word description of a color and/or its graphic display, whether on one's color monitor or in the catalog per se. Until, on arrival, one sees what they ordered, one can never be sure that the item ordered will look like that which has been displayed. So discrepant was one color, that the pant was returned. Why? Because I had no shirts that would pass the color-coordinated test, publicly. Consistently nit-picky! And, guilty.

Recently, I decided to return to wearing some browns. Looking at a brown pair of pants as advertised as "Bark" and showing predominantly rust-colored hue, I ordered same only to find, on arrival, that the true word description for the color would have been TAUPE....a grayish-hued brown versus a color remotely rusty brown. And, of course, a true representation of that hue of brown online or by way of the catalog would have been a deal-breaker. Nevertheless and unanticipatedly, I had clothing and a pair of shoes that closely matched. The answer for resolution of color disparities as projected would be a good photographer to capture truly representative colors to be displayed. True, that would mean an increase in overhead costs and possibly a reduced profit margin....unless cost of return processing decreased, as well.

Further, and seemingly inexplicably so, is Duluth buyer's affliction to the use of black, as a popular color worn by many, both women and men, in addition to the predominantly offered earth tones. Black tends to project a little more dressy or dressed-up appearance where casual dress pants might substitute acceptably for a little more formal outing considered less than actually formally formal, especially while on vacation with limited clothing choices.

From a marketing standpoint, avoidance of the color black constitutes a stiff-arm limiting potential increase in cash flow....this, possibly, by fear-factor sales insecurity or company-buyer prejudice. And, unabashedly, this constitutes a lobby for a black pair of Dry-on-the-Fly Cargo pants. Listen-up Duluth; because good, proactive business practices never limit cash flow....just the opposite, as you have found experientially.

In summation, as you have may have gotten the message, my satisfaction with the first pair of these pants, long and short, has led to ownership of additional pairs; because, primarily, of the attention-to-detail tailoring and total-package cost-value. They wash well and hang-dried by the leg hems, need no iron pressing; but, if pressed, the crease holds only for a short time of subsequent usage and not worthy of the extra labor-intensive time to accomplish.

With care, I anticipate long-duration wear and service from these quality pants; unless, at age 81 pushing 82, I unanticipatedly depart alien planet earth for Dry-on-the-Flight travel to my eternal home.

My only criticism of this pant is the cut of the thigh. Admittedly, I have rather large upper legs (I'm an avid mountaineer and hiker), and while the crotch has plenty of room the upper legs bind a little. Otherwise, I'm VERY happy with these pants.

The pants are quality made and perform fine, but I wish they were styled exactly like your flagship firehose cargo jeans. Right now the pockets look like a couple grocery bags when even lightly loaded. But I only wear them in the outdoors, not to church.

Comments about Duluth Trading Men's Dry on the Fly Nylon Cargo Pants:

I was looking for some pants that I could hike in as well as do some casual work and these worked out great. The waste line is a little high for me but so are most pants I buy so it wasn't much of an adjustment. That was really the only downside at all. The quick access zipper pockets are great because I always need something out of my pockets when I'm traveling.
