I use this as an everyday carry pocketknife. It is a very nice knife-good looking, and a good size to carry even in dress pants. The quality seems very high, and I am sure it will last years. I got this knife mostly as a curio, and although it seems well made and is very sharp, at first I was very disappointed. I wondered if anyone at Duluth Trading had ever tried to open it one handed. It could be that there were post Civil War knives that opened as the catalog picture shows, but the end of the blade would have to be made somewhat differently. The forces are simply in the wrong direction. By applying great downward pressure to the edge of the pocket, I finally managed to open it to about 80 degrees. Fortunately, that was the best I could do. If I had managed more I think I would have a very bad cut in my leg. After some thought, I realized that motion is relative and there was a way to get the forces lined up. Now the little knife rides in the front cargo pocket of a pair of Fire Hose pants. I can easily reach down and lift it to the top of the pocket and smoothly open it one-handed all set to cut whatever is in the other hand.

I am thinking of getting more as gifts. I would give the knife 5 stars, but the catalogue picture of how to open it gets 1/2 star if that! I have not had it long enough to know how well the edge stands up, but it appears that it would. It is very sharp now and effortlessly cut a zip tie a couple of days ago.

If one looks very carefully, there are some tool marks inside, but any of the normally visible surfaces are well finished. I like the knife and would have written a review even if Duluth had not offered free shipping on my next order. All in all, it is an interesting, useful, and elegant little knife.

I have one like it but different brand. The old one I had bends and dulls easily. I was skeptical about this knife until I got it. Have used it for about 2 month and loved it. Much stronger and durable than my old one and much sharper too...

I like this little knife! Would have given it 5 stars if the clip point blade had been sharp, but I am used to sharpening my blades for myself, and don't mind doing it. The square-ended blade DID come with a nice edge on it.
Other than the edge on the one blade, I like the feel of it in my hand, and it fits my pocket nicely. I like that it's nice and tight, and unlikely to open accidentally. It's not a one-handed knife, by the way, at least not for one of MY hands.
l'd buy another if I lost this one, and I'd recommend it to a friend, but offer to sharpen it for him (or her).

This is a small pocket knife. Should not be considered anything else. Can and will be used for small jobs while camping. Opens easy enough but needed a little better edge put on it when it was received.
