No. 9 Draftmatic Pencil and Lead Combo
Typical mechanical pencils are way too wimpy for the job site, but the brawny Draft/Matic can handle hard labor. The extra-thick .9mm lead stands up to abrasive surfaces, so you can jot notes on a concrete foundation or mark lumber. From Duluth Trading!

Draftmatic pencil rugged and reliable

By Gene

from Camarillo, CA

Verified Buyer

Pros

  • Easy Lead Replacement
  • Get 2 Or 3
  • Reliable Pocket Clip
  • Rugged and Reliable
  • Works In The Rain

Cons

  • Fatter Profile Preferred

Best Uses

  • Cross Word Puzzles
  • Field Record-keeping

Much better and more reliable than cheaper pencils. This mechanical pencil takes abuse much better than others (dropping, crushing against truck bed or tailgate). "Beefier" profile would make it even better.

Pros

  • Saves Time Sharpening
  • very durable

Cons

    Best Uses

If you need a fine line every time, get this pencil. I attached to a lanyard around my neck via a rare earth magnet and it's there when I need it.

      Sturdy Pencil

      By Rob T

      from Denver, CO

      Verified Buyer

      Pros

      • Durable Pencil Lead
      • easy to grip
      • Has A Pocket Clip
      • Sturdy

      Cons

      • Could be a bit thicker

      Best Uses

      • Lay out

I've used mechanical pencils in the electrical trade for over thirty years because the lead is always sharp. Durability has always been an issue. My favorite was the discontinued Scripto Classic because the lead was thick enough to use in the field, it was easy to clip to my bib's pocket, it carried a lot of lead and was inexpensive to replace.

I've been through several brands of unsatisfactory mechanical pencils and this one from Duluth is holding up very well so far and the 0.9mm lead is just thick enough not to break off frequently when laying out marks for pipe cutting and bending or laying out holes for drilling.

      Works good

I use this pencil on a variety of surfaces: metal, wood, concrete, etc. It holds up pretty well on these surfaces compared to other finer leads that would just break. Regular carpenter pencils are ok, but sometimes you need a finer line, and this pencil fits the bill for me. Would get 5 stars if it came with a couple extra erasers.
