I live in LA (lower Alabama) but it still gets cold here from time to time. Best work coat I've worn. Won't snag or tear in the woods, deep pockets handy and provides warmth. Lots of material used in building this coat so it's a little on the heavy side, but well worth it.

This is an excellent jacket and there is a definite focus on quality. The fire hose material, combined with the brass hardware is very nice. The pockets are very roomy and well placed. I can easily carry a big hat and pair of gloves in this coat. I use this jacket in conjunction with a soft-shell jacket with a hood, as a secondary layer underneath. Overall, nothing really comes close to this coat. I was hiking outside during -25F temperatures and kept myself warm. The best part is not having to worry about destroying it if you run into something or fall. My brother was skiing with an expensive ~$300 softshell and ran into a tree branch, which caused his jacket to tear. When he told me the story, he said next time he goes he would need to get a heavy duty Duluth jacket! Of course, there are a few additions I wish this coat had. A detachable hood would be nice, they become essential gear in cold climates. My friend has the Duluth Superior jacket and I really admire the wrist covers, to prevent snow from entering the sleeves of the jacket and keeping heat in. This coat would be awesome if it had this feature too. The only other thing I could think of to improve this coat, would be to reinforce the ends of the coat sleeves. These are primary points of contact, meaning they are constantly rubbing against surfaces while you wear it. It would be cool if the ends were reinforced by some sort of polymer, or perhaps some kind of strong material, to protect the fabric and the stitching from coming undone. All in all though, this is a great jacket, I'm sure it will serve me many years. Thank you for such a great product!

                Best work coat I own.

                • Really warm

                Cons

                  Best Uses

This my go-to coat for everything outdoors on the coldest of days. It's actually too warm if I'm active and the temp is above freezing. One thing you'll come to appreciate is the quilted satiny lining in the sleeves. No more struggling to get your coat on or off over a fleece. Like most things at DTC the coat is sized generously so layering is very easy to adjust for the weather. I found the sleeves a bit too long but that's more about me being pear-shaped than a design issue. The zipper IS an issue, however. It's a bit frustrating at first but you'll figure it out after a few tries. And pockets ... holy cow, this thing has pockets everywhere you could possibly reach with your hands. Inside and out, there's a pocket built for something special. I think you could pack for a weekend in Vermont and not need luggage. I've found the firehose fabric to be about bomb proof. The big difference with this coat is the garment-washed pretreatment so it's ready to wear with no breaking in. It's not waterproof but it will repel a light mist or wet snow. After using the snowblower I'll be covered with snow that just shakes off. The longer length makes it a bit uncomfortable to wear while driving. If it's a problem you can get the same model in a jacket length. Overall, if you're going to climb Everest this may not be your first choice. But if staying warm whilst you split wood or shovel snow is your goal just order it!

I've had several winter coats over the years and was not happy with them. Bought this in the fall and even before opening the shipping bag I was impressed- it was heavy! Plenty of pockets too. The zipper was difficult at first but now works fine.

On to the important part- I live in Michigan and we just got through the coldest weather I've ever experienced. My job often has me visiting college campuses and this week was no exception. Most colleges have lousy parking situations and even in the -15 air temp with winds strong enough to give a windchill of -35 I was completely comfortable with no additional layering (all I had underneath was a Duluth no-polo) on the walk from visitor parking back to the building I was working in. Really liked that they don't have the elastic sleeves that some other brands used- to keep out wind I ran the sleeve over my gloves and used the adjustment snaps to get it to a nice and snug fit. I had never spent this much on outerwear before but I am absolutely satisfied with my purchase.

This jacket meets and exceeds the Duluth description!

It isn't bulky, yet provides more warmth than other heavy and bulky coats that I've had in the past, yet is far more durable.

I waited to provide this review until several months after I purchased this, and through the first heavy winter storm. This jacket has stood up under well in snow and temperatures down to 12 degrees.

I don't know how they do it, but I am actually to wear this jacket indoors, and it doesn't get hot!
