Comments about MN Whaleback Snorkel Parka:

My husband is an Angus cattle rancher. He works outside in the elements 365 days a year, 8-12 hours a day and he claims this is THE BEST winter coat he has EVER owned. He will NEVER wear any other coat or any other brand. My husband does not dole out praise quickly so this is a HUGE compliment. Thank you for this incredible product!

Comments about MN Whaleback Snorkel Parka:

I am a reclamation scientist and mine inspector, and I do a lot of winter field work at high elevations in Montana.
This coat is great for winter outdoor work! It has enough pockets to hold everything -- field notes, camera, phone, dark glasses, GPS, tools, and anything else I need to carry. The big patch pockets in front stay closed until I want them open, and nothing falls out. (A major gripe I had with ALL other brands of work coats was the stupid, useless slash pockets; stuff falls out of them!)

Comments about MN Whaleback Snorkel Parka:

The shell is everything it clams to be waterproof and made well.
The only problem is the liner, it leaks the feathers out.
I have never bought a down filled coat before and would not have returned it if the feathers wasn't coming out, if the manufacture ever fixes this problem and puts some focus on the quality of the inside of the coat as they did the outside, I would consider buying again.
Bottom line: make a better liner, even add a bit more down feathers, yes it may raise the price a bit but I would pay a bit more for durability and warmth.

I ordered the XL size because there is now more of me than a few years back. Everything fits but the sleeves. NOTHING gets through this coat. My old parka was too small plus it was time to upgrade. I wore this coat during a Chicago blizzard. I was completely warm while shoveling snow. It is easy to move around with coat zipped. It has plenty of pockets and the double storm flap is a very good idea.

Comments about MN Whaleback Snorkel Parka:

I've had the non-insulated shell version for years and loved it for being tough and waterproof.
I decided to get this down whaleback snorkel for snow blowing and working outside in the cold.
I wore it all winter and love it.
I am 6'2", 175# with a 34" sleeve and the "large tall" fit me great.
I often have trouble with coats being too "baggy", and bought this specifically because it had 2 hem cords - one at the waist and one at the bottom of the coat. Pulling them fairly tight keeps the coat quite form fitting so cold air can't get in.
Many times I worked for hours snow blowing, including some heavy wet snow storms - and even storms that turned to rain - and kept totally dry.
The pit zips are a nice touch - although if you are doing extensive shoveling in anything over frigid temperatures this coat will be "too warm".
The nylon shell really is tough - yet paired with the down, this tough coat is not heavy at all (I was afraid the Snorkel Parka would be quite a bit heavier, and if working in wet snow to rain it could get really heavy.)
          I love all the pockets.
The fit and finish is absolutely first rate. This includes the great wrist tabs and the best/most adjustable hood of any coat I have ever owned.
I see several have complained about "feathers".
Truthfully, they could do a better job at the factory getting rid of the loose feathers that escape while the lining is being stitched in. It is not excessive - but would be annoying if you arrived at work in your new coat with feathers sticking to you.
I found after wearing it a couple times, any loose feathers in the sleeves were gone, and have not seen any more.
Like any down coat, as you move around the end of a feather can start to "stick out" through the lining, but I have not had any coming all the way through.
It seems they use high quality down. (I would have thought that advertising the down fill power would be a selling point, as many other coat makers do this.) The high quality of the down may make this coat "thinner" than some cheap coats that have many large feathers that just don't insulate like fine down.
I have two other down coats - a non-shell fairly lightweight one for a brisk hike/walk on a nice winter day, and a heavier weight one for sitting in a cold football stadium.
But this is the best, most functional coat for snow blowing or working outdoors in the cold.
And if I had bought this first, I probably wouldn't have bought the other two.

This is simply not a warm coat. At 20 degrees I could feel cold coming through it. I returned it (I appreciate Duluth's return policy) and upgraded to the Fire Hose Goose Down Snorkel Parka which is warm. The Whaleback would be fine in milder weather but not in winter temps.

Comments about MN Whaleback Snorkel Parka:

I bought this for my grandpa who is a heart and stoke patient that has to take blood thinners which causes him to get very cold very easily. He is the kind of guy that never really complained about it but you could tell he was always cold. So I bought this for him because he is also the type of guy that would never spend this kind of money on himself. He LOVED it! The week he got it we had single digit temps with snow and high winds, but he never once complained about being cold. Only problem was the feathers were all over I'm after wearing it every time, so he sent back for exchange. Then the second one came and it did it again which was very frustrating because although he has carhart coats and such this was the only one that cold keep him warm. So we are trying the downgraded version without the goose down, but just praying it will do the trick. Also that jacket was extremely well built and I was so impressed by all the pockets, hidden and insulated outside, and the things that pull it tight against your body. Overall would recommend if they can figure out how to stop insulation from leaking.

Comments about MN Whaleback Snorkel Parka:

I've been looking for a winter coat that will fit my athletic 2xlt frame. Most other coats in this size - if you can find them - fit the body, but are too tight in the arms, or fit the arms, but don't fit the body. I've had to sacrifice warmth for an ok fit recently with another coat in the same price range and on a cold day decided that enough was enough and purchased this parka and it's about perfect. It's lightweight, keeps the cold out, and fits great.
The only issue that I have is that the zipper takes some getting used to, but that's ok! I may actually buy a spare one for weekend wear!

Haven't had the coat long but wore it today with temps in the mid to low 20's with light snow and I stayed completely comfortable and dry. The coat is not bulky and restrictive in doing outside activities such as cleaning the snow off of the cars, porches and walkways which I did today :) After coming in and taking the coat off I was not sweaty, so it apparently it breathes well also. Underneath the coat I had on a midweight long John top under a pullover dryrelease top and a light wieght fleece vest [ some one with a little more insulation around the bones than me might forgo the fleece vest :) ] and paired up with Duluths Whaleback Cargo Pants I was ready for anything Old Man Winter Could dish out :)
