    Close, but no cigar

    By TriggerHappy

If allowed, would have given the jacket 3.5 stars.
Had my eye on it since first introduced. Bought the "sizzle".

I have several jackets and coats from Duluth and this one, sadly and surprisingly for a work jacket, is burdened with the same, overly tight armpit tailoring as the force nine jacket, which I've had for years and love in spite of that shortcoming.

In my opinion, given that, in both instances, the sleeve lengths seem a tad long for the sizing, I would have preferred a little more of the material be used for loosening up the armpit

Other than that, I do like it; seems well constructed with good size pockets, quality zipper and snaps instead of buttons.

    Pros

    • Great for casual wear too
    • Room to move in
    • Rugged in the wood lot
    • Wears like iron

    Cons

      Best Uses

      • Bucking up firewood
      • Casual fall jacket
      • Great against the wind

I can wear this on a job site framing as well as cutting timber here in Vermont and never worry about it getting shredded or torn. If I had two the other one I'd proudly wear for casual day to day wear.

I've worn this hiking and it stopped the wind and even kept me dry during the showers. Enough room to wear a sweater or fleece jacket under it for insulation. I like the toughness of the fabric.

Purchased this jacket based on the recommendation of many great reviews and let me tell you, they are all true. The jacket looks great, has tons of pockets inside and out to stash you stuff and is tough as nails. I have worn the jacket in a light rain and the water beads up and rolls right off. It blocks wind completely and in temptures down in the mid thirtys, kept me warm.

Just an all-round great jacket, and it saves wear and tear on my old one, vintage 1966.

                Field Jacket Plus

                By Gus

                from Seattle, Washington

                Pros

                • Extra rugged shell
                • Good freedom of movement
                • Good size breast pockets
                • Heavy zipper storm flap
                • Large buttons on cuffs
                • Snap closures on pockets
                • Two inner zip pockets
                • Water Resistant

                Cons

                • Sleeves a bit narrow

                Best Uses

                • Casual all-around wear
                • Multi-weather wear
                • Outdoor work

This is one *versatile* jacket. The large, roomy outer pockets are very good -- each with two closure snaps (an improvement over the Army field jacket). Since this is my all-around grab-jacket, and I just bought it, I haven't yet tested it in hard physical wear. But the heavy Fire Hose material is obviously rugged. One nice touch: the lower pockets are outer patch-type instead of internal, and they contain hand-warmer pockets. Another nifty item: the collar flap has a wide cross-throat piece with a LARGE closure button. (I abhor teensy-weensy buttons on work or outdoor clothes!) Also, the cuffs have LARGE buttons. And there are the two inner pockets, each with a sturdy zipper.
Your customer service lady was very helpful in getting me the proper size.
A couple of suggestions for (minor) improvements: the sleeves should be roomier. I can wear a thick fleecy vest, but not a sleeved sweatshirt or other bulky layer. Also, the elbow patches could extend an inch or so farther down the sleeves. Finally, you could make all four outer pockets an inch or so deeper. (I like *huge* pockets -- the bigger the better.)
All in all, a terrific jacket!

"I would buy this product again"

                By Ted

                from Junction City, Ohio

I bought this jacket for my wife to hunt mushrooms etc. It is very warm and water proof, however the zipper was a problem at first. Seems to work ok now.

I wore my Men's Fire Hose Field Jacket the day after I received it. Got caught in a pretty strong rain storm. The fire hose material did not let the water seep through and my upper body remained warm and dry. Reminds me of the field jacket I was issued when I went to basic training -- only this one is much better!!!
