Comments about Duluth Trading Men's Ultimate Fire Hose Cargo Work Pants:

I have been looking for a pant like this. I like how roomy they are and the quality. Just one problem. The zipper won't stay up. It's bad enough that I have had 2 very embarrassing experiences already and I've only had them a week! I don't know if I got a "lemon" or if this is just how they are. I'm a little disappointed that a company so focused on comfort and quality would have this problem

Comments about Duluth Trading Men's Ultimate Fire Hose Cargo Work Pants:

The knee pads ease of use is clearly the best part of these pants. The price is comparable to other work pants, but you do get a whole lot of functionality and versatility, in addition to the typical work pant standards. Given the tough material, great construction, and comfortable fit, you can't find a better "tough pant" deal. I am a miser and avid researcher, and I could not find a better bargain-for-the-value either online or using various store promotion combos.

I did read all the 'poor stitching' etc. comments, but I did not see any evidence of that on the two pairs I had in hand. I did notice a few "fuzzies" or sting ends here and there, lots of them actually, but all the seems appear to be tight and well constructed. It appears to me that they don't cut them short so that the strings don't come unstitched over time. As work pants, you will never notice. The thread is the same color as the pant material. I will let you know how they wear over extended time. Just remember these are pants designed for those who think wearing a flannel button up shirt is dressing up.

My only real complaint is something that can't really be helped; because these pants are a tough material, and they have all the features, they are a bit heavy. That should be obvious from "heavy duty" pants, but if you have never worn these type of pants, not even canvas style work pants, then you might want to get a good "tight" fit or some suspenders. I originally ordered on the larger size (I am an in between size 33x33) but between the weight and the loose fit, they were falling down every step. I ordered the next size down which fit great. Given that America is so fat, it makes sense that these construction site type pants are cut on the large side. I have stayed fairly "normal" weight so the 32x32 fit plenty loose. To date I have been wearing them a few weeks now, maybe over a month, and the stretch / shrinkage is minimal. If the fit and weight issue is a concern for you, just get the lighter or more flexible material, or one with less pockets.

So on to the fun stuff: These pants are PERFECT for puttering around the house, starting and stopping various large and small projects, and then finding yourself out in public (that is my thesis statement). I also have great confidence I could work on a construction site all day every day and quickly recover my investment in these pants, then keep using them for years to come.

Without the kneepads in, the extra layer of fabric over the knees ads enough protection to help on the occasional quick job, like finding an outlet for a new appliance or some other quick fix. Even if you are rearranging a room and have to keep kneeling down to do various things, the extra layer helps keep your knees from wearing out and having to spend all that time wearing knee pads when you only need them randomly / occasionally but not worth keeping on.

But when the work is more "project" like, it only takes a minute to slide in the knee pads. They work great and are always in the right position. I have only used them a few times so far due to what I described above, and because winter is the home project off season. But when I have used them, I forgot they were there so easily, I had to keep remembering that I could kneel down and it would feel good, even though I don't have that strap digging into the back of my leg. I kept leaning over to adjust them and realizing I didn't have to. It still brings a smile to my face, and my loyalty to the brand.

So far they are wearing well, although I hope it's still very early in the pants career. The tuck in pockets hide the flaps well and I don't notice the extra fabric in the way. Belt loops appear big enough to take a 2" belt, although I don't have one yet. The tool pouch carriers on the sides are just awesome to look at, so full of raw function and power you can't help fondle them from time to time. Although a bit bulky, they hide out of the way well enough and go unnoticed as far as I can tell. Even though I am sure people notice them, I just love having all that raw potential on my hips. I have fun just thinking of all the useful things I could do with these amazing straps. I wish I had the money to get the pouches for bigger jobs. Although I am sure you would need at least a full size belt like a tool belt type, or even suspenders depending on how much you carry. These pants are the "poor mans" version of the tool vests, just one step short of the Occidental Leather style tool vest setups. These pants are obviously intended to be daily wear pants that carry some easily changing variety of small tools, yet can easily expand some (tool pouch carriers) or revert to great pants under a larger tool system. Affordable versatility is the theme here.

The wide belt loops and deep waist help keep drafts out and a give a comfortable full or "high" waist feel. I grew up in the 70/80s and these are the "normal" waist feel I remember before rap invaded all styles and we all had to fight the pant waist dragging fit issues. The legs are a bit to roomy for me but maybe that's just me and this cold winter. I do love the freedom of movement and I can do anything on a job and not get pinched anywhere. They are boot cut or straight leg, and even though I sometimes feel the dreaded bell bottom fashion police about to close in, I am comfortable enough in my own skin at this point not to let it get to me. If you are looking at a pair of these pants, you are not a conformer type anyhow.

Other than paying for shipping, which is fair, there is a complete money back guarantee, so don't worry about loosing any money shopping online. It's worth it to trade all that savings in time/fuel going to store to store, getting hassled by other people, and still not finding the right sizes, just to be able to shop online at any hour to your miser heart's content, order whenever you want, and get a full refund (minus minimal shipping cost). LL Bean knew this years ago and Duluth has picked up on it. Quality make and function oriented products, great service, and full refunds are the secret.

Overall, if you are seriously thinking about it, do it. The risk is minimal and the payoff possible in so many ways, you are almost guaranteed to find so may things you like about these pants, you won't be able to give them up. Even if you don't need or appreciate several features of these pants (I don't need the key chain, wide belt loop in the back, or the cargo pockets - yet), there is so much variety in these pants, you are likely to be in the middle of a project and about to say . . . " if I just had a . . . oh, look at that, there, I can use this thing here like this. . . and . . . yep, works just fine . . ." so many times, you will wish you had bought them when you first started looking at these crazy pants.

I will endeavor to update this review as time and wear goes on.

Bought these pants for the removable knee pads and cargo pockets. I am on and off my knees a lot during the day and was getting to the point of having to lay a pad down before I worked on a unit. With the cargo pockets I have been able to eliminate a lot of the equipment that I had carried on my belt. They are very comfortable and the gusseted crotch makes squatting down a lot easier. Love them.

I'm an electrician here in France. I do a lot of installation crawling around on crude concrete slab. Using a nail gun to nail down conduit. After a few months one knee pocket got ripped by Rebar the other got ripped by a sharp bit of steel on the slab. 9 months alter I'm stilll wearing this pair. The trousers are still intact just the external knee pad pockets are torn. These trousers have lasted me longer than any other pair. (I wear these to work every day). I like the suspenders and the pocket accesories. Pleased with the purchase, I'm very hard on work clothes.

Comments about Duluth Trading Men's Ultimate Fire Hose Cargo Work Pants:

I only ordered 1 pair to try them out, I loved them so much I ended up wearing them everyday for 25days straight with 14hr shifts...yes I washed them (every 3rd or 4th day). I am going to order more and toss out all my other brands.

I work in a construction/ carpentry type industry, plus sometimes in the movie industry as a Set PA, or on Special Effects Team, and with Set Building Team. These pants are perfect for ALL of them.

Even when all the pockets are full of tools and hardware I can climb laders, walk along truss, and crawl around on the floor without restriction or stuff falling out of them.

If these pants were trucks I'd say these FH pants are the 1 ton Diesel Crew Cab Long Bed 4x4's, and everthing else are just 4cyl mini trucks.
