Ultimate kitchen wear!

By Feanor MacFinwe

from Norfolk, NE

Pros

  • Comfortable durable

Cons

  • none

Best Uses

I am a professional chef of 30 years. These are far and away the most durable and comfortable pants I have ever worn in the kitchen. Warm, but not too warm for warm weather wear. Norfolk Nebraska in the summer is a humid sauna, and these work great! Will be buying more to replace my poorly constructed chef pants.

The Swiss Army Knife of overalls.

    By Ted the Tool Guy

    Pros

    • Fire Hose - 'nuff Said
    • Metal hardware

    Cons

    • Pen Pockets
    • Phone Pocket

    Best Uses

    • Hard Work

If you like fire-hose and freedom, but don't need a belt, these are for you. All stress points riveted. Metal fly and chest pocket zippers. I wasn't sure what to expect in the shoulder strap hardware, but it's ALL nickel finished metal - no cheap clips or plastic on these 'alls.
Couple design shortcomings in the chest pocket collection. The "phone pocket" was probably designed pre-"smartphone", and is too small to accommodate anything but older flip phones. The 3 pencil pockets are just that: great for flat or normal pencils or standard Bics, but too tight for "chubby" pens. Still, there are so many pockets to stash things, you'll find a place for everything.

      • Just Looks Good For Daily

I do a moderate amount of construction and remodeling (my second job) and am always looking for clothing that makes it easier to access items needed, such as pencils, cutting tools, measuring tapes, etc. I own one pair of denim overalls from Big Smith which are also good quality. The only issue I have with those is that the shoulder straps are extended to last posible position and I could use about one more inch. I am 6'2" with a long back so when I got these Duluth Overalls, I was so pleased that they fit length wise with at lease three more inches for adjustment.
I had read a review that these overalls are a little big compared to other clothing, which is my only issue with Duluth clothing. I usually wear a 36" waist on pants so I ordered 34" inch waist on these overalls. Perfect. These overalls fit my length, my waist, are made of that extremely durable firehose fabric, and just look really good.

I wake up in the morning looking forward to putting on my Duluth fire hose coveralls. Never has a set of clothes set off sheer joy in the thought of going to work. My knees don't hurt while i work crawling over rocks and under buildings. The only problem i have found is for the first few weeks all the coworkers want to know where they can get a pair for themselves.

My husband is HARD on clothes, especially farmwork clothes. Within 30 minutes of receiving these overalls, they were pretty well coated in mud. I am happy to report that they've already been washed several times, and they look great. A regular pair of overalls would have certainly had a rip somewhere by now...and it's only been 3 weeks since he's gotten them.

                  Best Uses

I use this product for apartment remodeling - that's demo and rebuild. The building(s) (is/are) at least 100 years old, so plumbing and wiring are still visible. I'm there to help change that. At 50+ years old, knee pads are nice when in place. Elastic suspenders that slide under the additional weight carried by these overalls might make reaching up comfortable, but let knee-pads slide out of place. And when crotch location is low, climbing stairs and ladders as much as I do is tiresome. Laundering is not so much an issue for me where I wear this product. I do like the pockets though. I would probably be less critical if the overalls didn't have elastic suspenders. I won't spend what I did on another of what I got. Perhaps the suspenders could be replaced by non-elastic - I might be interested then.

                    Best Uses

                    • Industrial

This thing is awesome. Comfortable, great weight distribution, the velcro knee pad pockets are much easier to deal with than Carhartts, the gusset is brilliant. The leg pockets are fantastic, I love that they're big and sort of pushed forward a bit so you can get to them easily while kneeling. The hand pockets are also awesome - no lining to pull out so if you stick a gloved hand in there the whole pocket stays put.

The "cellphone" pocket is a letdown. Smartphones are a tool I use all day long (taking photos of parts and projects, calculator, flashlight in a pinch). and the pocket on the front of these overalls does not even come close to fitting my Samsung Galaxy II. It does slide in but about a 1/4 of the phone sticks out. In fact, the pocket is not big enough to fit a small notepad (I'm talking "rite in the rain" flip over notepad - pretty common size). This needs to be addressed, phones as a tool are vital and they need to be protected in a dedicated pocket.

Another reviewer suggested the hang up loop should be inside the front flap so things don't fall out of the chest panel pockets - I agree.

More colors - black and storm grey would be great - fix these things Duluth and I'll buy a lifetime supply right now!!! (either way I'll be coming back for more)

I work heavy commercial construction and durable clothes like these are a great asset, whether working off a ladder on down in a ditch, they are comfortable and have plenty of pockets. The biggest complaint I might possibly have is a bit of trouble remembering what is in which pocket.
