Comments about ThreadMate Repair Tool - ThreadMate Mini Kit:

Building bikes part-time, I've already used the ThreadMate for external threads for some time now with good success. I bought the Mini Kit mainly for the internal thread repair tools even though an external ThreadMate came with them (now I have two...). The two internal tools are sized differently to account for the size range selection listed and will do either RH or LH threads in Metric or SAE sizes. While we have dies in the shop to "chase" or "cut" internal threads, bikes sometimes come in with the threading entry point of the pedal crank or handlebar retaining clamp either marred or with a burr making the die entry point and angle needed to follow the existing thread a "hit or miss" proposition. The internal ThreadMate simply gets inserted into the central area of the threading (which is almost always clean) and then tightened (and maintained) finger-tight while backing the tool out. This will usually correct the problem on the first attempt, but can be repeated if necessary. Be sure to use a light oil since you are actually cutting steel and not just bending it back into place. It really does saves time (and frustration).
