    Very Good Jacket, Totally Waterproof

Comments about MN Insulated Whaleback Jacket:

Very nice coat overall. The quilted lining is very thin. Doesn't keep me very warm below 40 degrees; if you are going to wear it in the cold go with the one that is down filled or get it an extra size larger so you can wear warm layers of clothes underneath. When I zip it up all the way, the neck area seemed a bit tight.

I would like to see a knee length parka in this material, with some improvements: snap on the hood's duck bill; I am always folding it back as it hangs down into my line of sight. Elbow pads like the shoulder pads. Metal zippers instead of plastic ones. Heavy duty man-made insulation (NOT goose down, down loses all ability to keep one warm when it gets wet.) Offer it in a very bright high visibility color for folks who work jobs where they really need to be seen (like traffic duty.) Maybe even reflective strips on the back and sleeves.

So glad Duluth did NOT put the silly fake fur ring on the hood like the N3P parkas...

I bought the coat for it's waterproofness, as my old N3P parka sucks up water when it's snowing or raining and is quickly soaked, not a good thing in the cold. I also wanted a tough material as the parkas nowdays have that satiny shell that doesn't look very durable.

I've worn Duluth's coat in the rain and a snowstorm and it's waterproof and a half. Any advice from Duluth on how to keep it waterproof over the years (special wash detergents, waterproofing agents to apply?) would be greatly appreciated. The material does seem to be very tough, indeed.

Very good cool weather, rain/snow jacket, I love it. Two thumbs up.

Comments about MN Insulated Whaleback Jacket:

Back in January I brought it for warmth when walking the dogs. It's been a cold winter here (everywhere). I'm female 6' M/L mens size yet wanted something more relaxed that I could wear my fleece-line hooded sweatshirt under which women didn't seem to offer as an option. I returned the original jacket received because it was more fitted than what I wanted and bought 1 size up to easily accomodate 3 layers underneath. The 1st night I tried it - It was freezing out but when I zipped it up and put on the hood the heat from my breath quickly warmed the hood and neck area and made me feel toasty to the point I just used the sweatshirt hood after awhile. The jacket hood also made me feel safer because I had good periferil vision when it was on. The liner in the sleeves are great and keep cold out. With wind chill temps have hovered around -15 to -2 degress a lot. As long as the wind was 15mph or less it worked great. When winds gusted to 20-30mph somedays I worked ok, well enough for a shorter walk- I'd need lined pants fight off the cold more if it gets that windy. It is very well made overall and I expect it to last many winters. My only complaint is the tilt of the main pockets which make it so things won't fall out- which is good, but they do take time to get used too, and most important they make it harder to get the dog treats out when wearing gloves... poor pups... anyway it is a nice jacket.

Comments about MN Insulated Whaleback Jacket:

This jacket has been great since I received it. I originally ordered a xl tall and found it was a little too roomy for me. The large tall fits great. Love the hood really chases the chill. I like that the jacket has pockets inside but not so many that you can't use them because everything clumps together. The pockets are lined, soft and warm. The jacket has a cinch at the bottom that has been great for sealing out the cold. The waterproof shell was ideal for today. It kept me dry while working with spraying water in -5 degree weather. Great coat hope they bring it back.

Comments about MN Insulated Whaleback Jacket:

Very well built jacket, not nearly as warm as I was led to believe when I purchased this at the Mt. Horab, Wi store. I work outside in all climates. I have had this jacket from -62c wind chills in Ft McMurray, Ab, Ca to Omaha, Ne. If it is windy or below 10 I have to add a North Face thermoball and some times also a down vest to stay warm. The zipper hangs up, and the biggest disappointment is the fact that only 2 months after I purchased it ,it is now on sale for 1/3 the price. I you need warmth, do as I should have and spend a couple hundred more and buy a Canada Goose parka.

Comments about MN Insulated Whaleback Jacket:

Surprisingly good coat for the price. The shell is weather tight and impervious to dirt. It's very lightweight, yet holds heat in and wind out. I took it winter camping at 20 below and with the proper base layers with lots of extra wool, kept me quite cozy. It seems to repel dirt and looks like it came right out of the bag despite some hard use this winter. The only area which might need improvement is the insulation. You will definately need a sweater or two underneath on those zero and below days with this coat.

Comments about MN Insulated Whaleback Jacket:

Great coat, fits and functions as advertised. Stands up nicely to coastal New England weather and has kept me warm down to 0 ambient, sub-zero with the wind. The ONLY thing I would like to have seen is a bottom-end zipper to open the waist and make it a little more comfortable when driving. But that's just a preference and not at all a defect. That noted, everything else about this product is absolutely perfect and I would buy one again without hesitation. Glad I bought it.
