Deflects ankle biting hitchhikers and debris (if the crud does not adhere i.e. burs and thistle). The 8" fold marginally covers an 8" boot top with zero tolerance for slippage. They don't seem to slip because the tops are very tight and difficult to get started. When the sock does slip, or is worn loose for comfort, it forms a crevace or trap for debris to collect between layers. Coarse debris may not leach down into the boot, but you know it's there, collecting around the ankles; think I would rather have it descend into the boot.
I have a pair of Cuffsox that are made for 6" boot tops that i've been using with 6" boots, same story.
Many of the "problems" are resolved when these socks are used with shorter than recommended boots or shoes.
Materials are good enough and dry quickly although a bit hot on the bottom for someone who is not used to walking for hours in acrylic.
Coolmax material feels better and is more forgiving
