I finally have a stud finder that works. Well worth every penny it costs.

Seems to work good so far

I work in the low voltage industry, so I'm cutting lots of holes in walls for audio/video, security, surveillance, automation, and cutting a hole in the wrong spot is not acceptable in the scope of work we do, we care, and we don't want to ever mess up.

As a rule of thumb, myself and my coworkers don't really trust stud finders. I actually haven't even used one since the batteries in my old one died a year or two ago, I would rather trust the sound of me tapping on the wall to find the studs than use a studfinder, but this product caught my eye, so I decided to try it.

I must say, its really cool watching the led's scroll across the unit as you glide across a stud behind the wall.

the amount of visual feedback it gives makes me feel much more confident in trusting what this thing is telling me.

its cool being able to turn the unit on at any time, whether its already on the wall or not when you turn it on, it will still work.

2 things though, and I'm being kind-of picky because I work in an industry where I have to move wire extensively through walls where I have to just know how its built to get from point a to point b, I'm not just hanging something on a wall.

          1. make sure to go SLOWLY over the wall, They say you don't have to slide it, but I'm not going to pick it up and re-place it across an entire wall, I'm going to slide it, and you can cross over a stud entirely before anything will have a chance to light up if you move too fast, so go slow, and that's fine.

          2. it did not seem to show a line of solid led's if you happen cross studs parallel to the studfinder, for example, a piece of horizontal fire-blocking inside a wall between the studs.

In other words, it detects studs perpendicular to the unit, which totally makes sense, its just that I'm not going to get a random reading i could investigate further if i cross over something behind the wall in a parallel direction.

it even says in the instructions that it has to be able to compare different areas., So pretty much if something is parallel to it, it does not see anything inconsistent along that plane.

My only gripe in general though, is that when you hit the button to use it, the led's do not even momentarily blink, nor is there any beep to acknowledge that its actually working and ready. You only know its working when it crosses a stud and you see the led's light up. It does not make any beeping noises ever.

If they made another model, that could beep so you know its working, and maybe even beep on presence of high voltage I would buy it for sure.

I am happy with this unit, it definitely seems to work better than numerous other fancy studfinders from many different brands that I have had experience with in the past. I don't want something that just tells me when it thinks I'm in the center of a stud, this unit allows me to see a picture of whats back there, and I can make the decisions based on the evidence it shows me.
