Bought two of these as tool boxes for my car and truck. They are nice, light weight versions of the original steel boxes. They seem heavy enough but aren't as rough and tumble as the steel ones. They do seem "cleaner"' being plastic and I think they will work well sitting on the floor in the back seat.

This makes a great box for hand tools if you like to keep an easily mobile set around. I use this as a mobile toolbox to carry around my 20-piece screwdriver set, 8 pairs of pliers, 3 crescent wrenches, and more. The small size is good as it can't get too heavy, and it isn't too deep so small tools don't get lost at the bottom.

The plastic is very heavy duty, and the box is strong enough to stand on.

This product's strength (small size) is also its weakness -- it isn't quite big enough to fit a standard hammer.

I was disappointed by design and quality issues. (1) At least 2/3 of the foam gasket is absent at both lid hinges due to the hinge design. The remaining gasket misses the raised ridge in the base designed to facilitate the seal. Also the top rim of the base is not flat – about 1/16 inch bow front to back. I've seen better and more robust seals on food storage containers. I wouldn't trust this flimsy seal to protect anything damaged by water. (2) The latch opens way too easily – slight pressure from my little finger tip. (3) The plated steel hardware (latch and hinges) will be prone to rust – probably sooner than later in a damp environment. This is unfortunate for a 'watertight' design which is otherwise rustproof. Two stars is generous – I only kept it because I would have lost 35% sending it back, not counting my time.

Perhaps a bit pricier than the military surplus ammo boxes made of metal - which are very heavy and prone to denting, but well gasketed. These can be locked if desired for security and use closed-cell foam for gasketing, which so far (about 3 weeks) has kept moisture out, using a silica gel desiccant. Would be a good means to store moisture sensitive and valuable products, like camera lenses and photos.
