    Eco-friendly and comfy, too!

    Cons

    • Waist a little tight

    Best Uses

I searched high and low for some practical, eco-friendly underwear that would not creep up on me. These fit the bill. I have not had to make a surreptitious grab once! The colors are vivid and so far don't fade. I highly recommend these. The only issue I have is that the waist is not as stretchy as it could be.

Ripped after one wear & panty lines too

I am ridiculously in love with DTC's Henley's so thought I would see if these pants would also be a good match for me. Nope. I wore them once (panty lines - drat) and then washed them and the stitching at the waist elastic ripped open. I haven't ever had that happen in u/wear that was brand new. I'm guessing I got a lemon pair, but since the dreaded panty lines were also an issue, I simply tossed the pair in the trash. I'm off to buy yet more Henleys.

I purchased these before we went on a hiking trip in the Pacific Northwest. It was a hot day when we decided to hike in the Mountains. This underwear felt more comfortable than any other I have ever worn in my entire life. I am not extremely athletic and as anyone knows who does any hiking, there are turns and twists, and lots of leg movements. The fact that these were so comfortable and soft against my constantly moving legs are a real plus. I now can see why other reviewers gave them great kudos. Keep on making great quality , well fitting products. I am a loyal Louisiana customer who hiked Mount Ranier ....and I am glad I made this purchase.

          Interesting, isn't it . . .

Interesting, isn't it? That you pay so very much for what they say is better quality, but the fabric gets thinner and thinner. The "softer" the article is, the thinner the fabric. Reminds me of having a sandwich at a nice restaurant: The tomatoes are sliced thinner and thinner until you know they can't get any thinner! And then you cannot even taste the tomato because it's so thin! Yet they still increase the price! :o(

So far, these are fairly nice underpants. They feel nice, except they fit big on me; I'm going to try a size down (which will be an L). I like pretty colors. More colors would be nice: greens, yellow, orange, pink, all of them. Improve the fabric and elastic thickness.

I would recommend them with RESERVATIONS: fabric thinness, high price. I don't know yet how they last, but they'd better last a while at this price!! (Just 3 pairs for over half a hundred dollars! Are ANY underpants worth that?) Most of my friends would NEVER pay these prices for underpants!

          Recent product not so good....

          By DeeAnna

          from Northeast Iowa

          Pros

          • Beautiful fabric

          Cons

          • Waistband elastic

          Best Uses

I have been wearing these undies for several years. I love the fabric -- it is light yet durable, washes well, and has a yummy peach-fuzzy finish. I have been ordering size L and I think the body of the panty fits me well -- not too loose, not too tight. For reference, I normally wear a size 16 jean and am fairly straight through the torso without full hips.

The recent change to the waistband elastic is my beef. My older pairs have a a narrow elastic that is still going strong. This elastic stretches nicely over my hips with stretch to spare, and is not showing any signs of failure after years of use. Love this!!!

When a "new and improved" version came out in the past year or so with a wider, flatter elastic and pretty lilac and turquoise colors, I eagerly bought several pairs. While I like the new colors, I don't like the new waistband elastic.

The stitching is too tight -- it does not allow the elastic to stretch fully, so when I put the panties on or off over my hips, I "hit the limit" of the stitching. Peeling a snug waistband down over my hips is awkward and unpleasant, especially on a hot day when my skin is sweaty and I Gotta Go Now. :)

The elastic itself is also not as durable. After just a few months of use, the elastic is rippling where the ends are stitched together at the side seam. This tells me the elastic itself is failing. A size up might fix the elastic issue, but then the body of the panty would be far too large. Don't love this.

These undies are too $$ to be showing this kind of wear so soon. Duluth -- please go back to the old fit and style of elastic please!

I bought these to replace my Jockey brand that I've been faithful to. I'm going back to Jockey's. These D.T. undies are thin and one pair has already split (after a month) at the waistband. I'm not exchanging this item, I want a refund.
Also, fit is not quite right for my body type (L).

I bought 2 pairs on sale. They fit perfectly. BUT on about the second wearing, one of them came apart on the right waistband elastic, then ripped at the seam. The other pair seems fine, so this may be a 1/1000 thing. But pretty disappointing for the price, even on sale.

Hard to find decent underwear that stays in place when working ranch, garden, and under dress clothes. These are not the best, but they are better than others I have tried recently. What is it with thin and flimsy? At least they improved the elastic from the previous model - it is still not great elastic, just better. I like cotton b/c it breathes, but cotton is getting harder to find, too. It would be nice if slightly heavier weight cotton fabric, but I like the slight stretch to it. Price point makes it difficult to try underwear at all - would not have tried these w/o super sale, esp. after major fail on last model from DTC.

                      • Everyday underwear

I have been happy with Duluth products in the past. My partner is a huge fan of your fire hose jeans and shorts. For this reason, and because I've recently had problems with my usual, formerly reliable brand of cotton underwear (I can't wear synthetic) falling apart, I decided to spring for Free Range underpants (I refuse to call them "panties"). They are very expensive for someone on my income, but I figured if they were durable, reliable, and comfortable they would be worth the extra cost. Well, the Free Range undies are comfortable. However, the first time I put them on I had the sense that the seam joining the elastic to the rest of the underwear was flimsy. This is the problem I had with the other brand-- the elastic separated from the undies the first time I washed them. With the Free Range, it took maybe five or six washes, but the same thing has now happened on one of the two pairs I purchased. This is unacceptable, especially for such an expensive product. It may be happening because the elastic isn't covered, as it used to be on underwear of the not-too-distant past (which used to last for years, by the way), just butted on. But this too implies a lack of quality. Surely the elastic waist would be more durable and comfortable if the elastic was covered. In any case, I will not buy this product again. I guess now my only option is to repair my sewing machine and start making my own underwear with a covered elastic waistband. I could make several pairs of underpants in bamboo or silk for the price I paid for two pairs of Free Range undies, even on sale.
