          Comments about Classic Straight Razor:

You all must leather strap it 50 times every time you use it. Oh yeah, up and down is once. It will take several months to get it so very sharp, you will not be disappointed. Now if you have an old belt.......sweet. I learned from genrations of staight blade shavers. Probably why I save old belts......hmmmm.
Stroke it up and down on the strap.
Facing away from you on the up stroke, then blade at you going down and away from you on the down stroke. As you get better it will fly up and down the strap.
Then get staight blade soap, I like the woden bowl and soap comes with it.
but, lots of soaps out there expand your scent.
Why the special soap? You ask? Regular shave foam or gell creates a suction type adhesion. Straight blade does not draw well. (Shave). Constant rewetting of straight blade..........not good.

The soap has awaesome scents and the blades glides down your face or up your neck.
Now..........you've done your 50 straps to the blade, make sure it is rised off before you strap it. Then after you strap it dont even wip it off, put drops of gun oil (light, moisture barrier) on each side Use a finger or whatever to smooth over the oil, does not take much.

When you know how to use something and what to expect from it makes life easier. Also grap some cheapo 2blade razors to pick up the slack till your blade rocks the shave.
Straight blades all come 440 grit sharp, not bad, but not the baby face shave.
          Stay with it. ((:
          yes......gun oil. Keeps moisture OUT!

                Comments about Classic Straight Razor:

I've been wanting to try a straight razor for years, but they're so expensive in specialty shops. I saw this and figured for the price I couldn't go wrong.

It's a nice piece, but doesn't seem very sharp. Could be me not knowing what to expect. I sent feedback to Duluth, and they sent me another one, but still doesn't seem sharp. I must be missing something.

The razor is beautiful, has a nicely crafted handle, and opens and closes very smoothly, but aside from that, I haven't been able to even remotely get a close shave from it. Most people told me I'd cut myself badly on a straight razor. Not this one, at least out of the box. I need to learn how to sharpen it.

Been wanting a straight razor for some time. I've looked at specialty stores and they were so expensive for something I jiust wanted to try. I saw this in the Duluth catalog and thought it might be a good option. When I got it I was really disappointed with how dull the blade seemed. I wrote customer service and they sent me a second one (excellent customer service), but that one didn't seem much better. It's a beautiful instrument, but not sure how useful it will be. I probably need to look into sharpening it myself.

                Comments about Classic Straight Razor:

I ordered this because I wanted to move up from my Shavette and have a good old fashioned straight razor. When it delivered I tested it out. It wasn't even sharp enough to cut paper easily. I tried to strop it, it didn't even help the situation. When I buy a razor, I expect only one thing, that it is actually sharp. Shame on me for buying it. If I want a straight razor I really should just drop the money on a good one.

This is my second razor, due to the returning of my first one that came with a split in the handle right at the pivot point of the brass pin that holds the blade. Both razors came sharp enough to shave with and look very nice. Time will tell on durability.
Is usable and Would make an excellent display item.

                      Comments about Classic Straight Razor:

I have been shaving with a straight razor for 20 years. I bought this one for travel since I have had two Dovo razors stolen while traveling. This thing shaves much better than I expected and strops up and holds an edge well. Ignore the low ratings, you can obviously see they have no clue how to even use a straight razor and probably aren't even old enough to need to shave. None of them even owned equipment to sharpen a blade, let alone hone a razor. You HAVE to strop it. Do not buy it if you do not have a strop or are buying a strop with it. It must be sharpened prior to EVERY use.

Buy a honing stone and a strop, or glue a piece of leather to a good piece of plywood and buy some chromium oxide. This razor is great! I was using an antique kraut & donnal but I have since replaced it with this as my daily shaver. You're not going to find a razor this good for the price anywhere else. Highly recommend.
