COMMENTS:

So I have named my Weed Burner "Guds Blemmende Vrere", which (if online translators are any help) means "God's Fiery Wrath" in Norwegian. The idea of this thing is so cool and so fantastic that you too will want to give it a good Viking/Celtic/Lord of the Rings/D&D type of name. Sadly, it's performance doesn't measure up to the idea.

First of all, as near as I can tell (and perhaps this is only the one I received), the "Flame Regulator" switch doesn't work. Once the propane tank is attached and the valve is open, it's ON! There's no ability to control the flow. Additionally, the flame blows out really easily. It was not a particularly windy day the first day I took it through its paces, and I was sheltered in my driveway from my house on one side and the garage on the other. Yet in just doing the weeds growing through the cracks in my driveway, I had to relight "Vrere" three times. A regulator that worked and a self-ignitor of some sort would go a long way to helping, but as it is it's not as simple to use as it ought to be since you're always having to relight it.

As far as pros go, it is nice that it doesn't require chemicals or frequent treatments of salt and vinegar to get rid of pesky, unwanted plant life in my sidewalks. And the idea, again, of having your very own personal flamethrower is pretty cool.

Would I recommend this to a friend? That depends on whether they feel the Cool Idea outweighs the Poor Implementation.

        COMMENTS:

Very dangerous item to use. You will need to talk to your fire department before using out doors. Permit might be legally necessary. Always have a hose pressurized with water on hand while torch is ignited. On hand means, "right next to you". Do not use outdoors on windy days.
