Blade snapped off just above the base while slicing an apple. Metal interior at the failure point looks granular, so maybe it was poorly forged/cast? I owned this knive straight from Duluth for 2-3 months and used it only on fruit. It broke on a Granny Smith Apple.

My dad use to run a supermarket and the fruit vendor gave him what they referred to as an apple knife 40 years ago, of course dad gave it to me because I love knives. Recently one on the rivets in the old knife broke and could'nt be repaired because it shattered the handle around the hole. I found this one and bought it and was impressed by the quality the minute i opened the box, if the other one lasted 40 years this one will be around a long time after i'm not.

Nice for food prep, indoors and out. Also a great garden knife; the long blade gets to hard to reach spots and can take down cover crops. It has become my second knife to carry around...as soon as I make a sheath.

I enjoy the Fruit Testing knife to end. I had fruit Knifes before, this one surpasses all i've owned. It is a lot heavier constructed.
I don't believe anyone would have a problem with the sharpness of the knife.
I believe it is a great product for the money.

I'm an engineer and avid amateur chef so I take my tools and food prep seriously. This is a handy and surprisingly versatile kitchen implement. I'm not sold on the construction yet (Chinese vs Japanese) but the 440C stainless blade is a world standard for good cutlery and is tempered toward the high end of the hardness scale (Rockwell 58 or 59) so that it's not so hard as to be impossible to sharpen but holds an edge well once put into good tune. When traveling or visiting friends I bring this knife along for food prep 'emergencies'--ever find a decent knife in a rented condo? This knife excels at precision slicing of fruits and vegetables and is adequate as a boning knife for poultry or fish; it can be used for garlic slivering and herb chopping but it's slimline blade has obvious limitations. I like to peel grapefruit then devein the sections individually and this is the perfect tool. It is a little trickier to sharpen consistently from heel to point because of it's length and slenderness of the blade. I use a belt sander with a fine emery belt and clamp the knife at a 20 degree angle to get a very keen edge. It's not a swiss army knife, just a very good tool for it's stated purpose and a surprisingly respectable tool for many other food prep requirements.

I had a summer job one year, as a produce delivery person. We would use a knife like this to trim produce that we delivered to markets or to restaurants. Very Handy. When I was in graduate school, I went to a Fall Party once and for fun they had an apple peeling contest. The person who had the longest peel would be the winner. I took a knife like this one with me because I had heard that they would be offering home made pies as prizes. Guess who had the longest, narrowest apple peel? I produced the whole apple peel about 3-4 feet long, all in one piece. Man, that pie was good! No one else came close.
