Used this tool in splitting hard wood. Worked well for 2 hours, but broke a inch from the bottome. Sad cuz it was working so well.

          Timber Blaster "Shivered My Timbers"

          By DeKooy

Used the Timber Blaster to split some 12" log rounds into manageable firewood. Although it works great, I have yet to split a round into 4 pieces, as advertised. The unique shape means that it never needs to be sharpened, unlike the old wedge splitters. Bottom Line: great at splitting logs in 1/2, just not in 1/4-ers.

The tip snapped off of the first splitter after only splitting about ten pieces of wood. I received another splitter but that one didn't last much longer. The casting seems to have voids which cause the tip to break off. I would not recommend this for anything more than splitting small pieces of wood.

This was a gift to my husband (who broadly hinted about it). He LOVES it, says it's the best splitter he's ever used.

I've used a lot of wedges, most are 25+ years old. I bought this new "Blaster" to hopefully save some time. That is not the case. I split about a half cord of White Pine when the tip of the blaster split off. After the wedge broke you could see that the metal had many imperfections within the material that is evidence of cheap quality. Once it broke Duluth sent another my way. Great Customer Service. The new one hasn't failed yet but don't expect to see any four way splits. Don't buy it.

The first Timber Blaster I ordered only lasted about 15 minutes when first used. The tip broke off of it. I emailed Duluth and a new replacement was shipped immediately. The second one is working great so far.

Works as advertised. I split a couple of cords of tough, fibrous, knotty ash, and the Timber Blaster split the log chunks very well, but took 50 to 60 blows with a sledge to go through the knottiest of them. I have probably 2000 blows to the wedge, and it is mushrooming slightly at the impact surface (to be expected), but is still holding its form.

Tried splitting multiple blocks of oak. Not once did it split the blocks into separate pieces. Maybe with a 6-8" diameter block, but nothing bigger.

I received this wedge as a gift for Christmas and liked the designed. However...

I recently had some large White Pine to split and this was doing an excellent job, but after splitting less than 20 pieces the splitting wedge cracked and with one more hit the wedge itself broke. The side of the wedge sheared off and is unuseable. I could understand if I had used it a lot on a hardwood but this was just soft pine. It is a good design but very poorly built.
