STORY
The Shizu Hamano cutlery factory was founded in 1980 in the city of Seki, in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. About an hour’s drive from Nagoya, Seki has been a center of knife production for nearly a thousand years. The craftspeople at Shizu Hamano are focused on exploring innovative materials and technologies while manufacturing traditional knives. Each knife in the “Morinoki” series is handmade, and balances functionality with warmth. The elegant handle is made of solid Japanese zelkova wood – a tree often enjoyed as a bonsai – and detailed attention is given to creating its soft, square shape to ensure that it’s comfortable to hold. The handcrafted blade is forged from durable stainless steel, making every Morinoki knife a considered and long-lasting choice. The Morinoki Paring Knife features a slim, sharp blade with a gentle curve that’s ideal for fine work, like peeling potatoes or fruit, or any range of kitchen tasks where a smaller knife is required.
