Unfair to women in the trades

    By Sister Ironworker

    from NJ

    COMMENTS:

I was so excited reading the reviews.
I'm a woman ironworker and my faithful Redwings wore out after 2 soles and 4 years. Researching between these, Thorogood and Redwing, and these were a clear winner based upon reviews and advice from co-workers.
Excitedly I got out my credit card, logged into my account and... ONCE AGAIN Duluth disappointed me with the disparity between what is available for men vs. women who work with the big boys. Their catalog images say it all. Men are in the trades. Women garden, ride horses and occasionally chop wood in yoga pants.

      COMMENTS:

First time buying these boots, been long time believer in wolverine work boots (durashocks), then bought my first pair of Duluth boots (grindstone) had two pairs of them, nice boots but the soles didn't last as long as l would like so l bought these moc toe boots and they will be the boot l wear until l die or Duluth quits making them!
      5/5 stars for me!
Took 1 day to break in and the leather is great quality!

      Thanks to Duluth!

        COMMENTS:

These boots are awesome. I reviewed Redwings and Thorougoods also. I just couldn't justify the cost of the Redwings and the reviews I read indicated they take time to break in etc. At the end of the day I have heard nothing but good things about Duluth and thought the boots looked great on line. I have a friend that has the Thoroughgoods and they look identical to mine except for the flag on the side of the boot. The reviews about the tongue are right. The tongue does slide down a bit to the side but I really don't notice it until I'm taking them the boots off. The boot could benefit from a tongue tab to put the strings through. Quite honestly it's not an issue but a simple improvement that would be good. I've only had the boots for a few weeks but the quality seems exceptional and I love how they look and feel. I'm extremely happy with the boots.

          COMMENTS:

I've had my eyes on these boots for years, but always delayed because I can get the Thorogood branded versions of these for much less. These went on a flash sale on a Sunday, and I just had to have them. I have bought Thorogoods for years, and bought these with my other Thorogoods in mind. If you have other Thorogoods, I would give a couple of small warnings just on my observations. (1) These are sized differently from regular Thorogoods. For Thorogoods, I wear 9D boots (in most other shoes I'm a solid 9.5D, sometimes 10), and still have some room all around. For these Duluth branded boots, I ordered a 9D, and they are pretty snug. I put a decent coat of Obenauf's HD LP on, and the leather should break in pretty quickly, but it's weird, since I've never really had to break in a pair of Thorogoods. (2) The laces are not the high quality, stiff Taslan laces I'm use to with my Thorogoods. These are yellow/brown, but pretty limp, and they have a lot of give/stretch, so that I had to re-lace/tighten my boots twice on the first day I had them on. I'll probably wait to see if they continue to stretch, or if they break down much faster than my regular Thorogood laces to see if I want to replace them. Overall, these are a great pair of boots, and should give me decades of comfortable days on my feet.
