Disappointing purchase

COMMENTS:

I realize this isn't a "Wind Proof" jacket or a jacket designed for freezing temps but I would like to think that a hoodie might provide some element of warmth and wind protection. This hoodie is no different than wearing a long sleeve cotton shirt. I imagine a perforated football jersey from the early 80's might provide better protection from the elements than this hoodie. Alaska Hard Gear? Anyone residing in Alaska might use this hoodie to stuff under a door to prevent a draft but wouldn't find it useful for anything else. I wore this hoodie to Boston in late April with temps ranging from 40's-upper 60's. The only thing this hoodie was good for was sun burn protection. Everything I've ever purchased under the Duluth name has been top quality with 0 complaints from me. Which is what makes the AHG experience disappointing.

      COMMENTS:

Purchased at the Duluth store in Louisville, KY early spring 2018.

First off the staff at the store is very knowledgeable and helpful. If one clerk doesn't have the answer they'll find someone who does or go straight to a manager for assistance. Haven't seen customer service like this in years.

Now the Blue Lake hoody. Be wary of the description, if you didn't pick up on the satire and you're expecting a heavy winter hoody you'll be disappointed. This is more akin to a lightweight technical hoody for high activity than anything else. I wore it early spring for a TN canoeing and hiking trip. The early morning mid 40s lake breeze cuts right through. It still insulates and keeps you from freezing but it is very breathable and nothing like the heavier Alaskan hard gear hoodies or jackets.

By mid afternoon the temps were in the high 50s and 60s with sunshine. The hoody did it's job wicking sweat and breathing while paddling and hiking moderate terrain. It also held up to brush and pushing through dense cedar trees.

The water repellent finish did it's job well. Light rain/mist beaded off and did not soak the hoody. However heavy sweat did seem to linger on the outer layer of the garment for a bit before drying.

The pockets are well designed and the secondary security cell phone pocket is a major plus. My iPhone 5s did not slip out and was held securely; Note my wife's iPhone 6 plus did not fit, it's a smaller pocket. It also accommodates my minimalist wallet.

The Duluth three piece hood and draw cord system is excellently designed. With or without a ball cap it is perfectly fitted and preserves peripheral vision (it added a great deal of warmth paddling in the early morning).

Bottom line this is a great casual wear, fitness, outdoor adventure layer. For early spring and fall it will do it's job well if you're moving. For winter it might make a good technical mid layer. Any colder than mid 40s and a breeze you'll be alive but not toasty warm.

        COMMENTS:

Bought this hoodie on sale after Christmas at the new Michigan store. Really like the soft blue color. Goes well with all color jeans. Paired with a breathable turtleneck will keep you warm outside in late winter weather. Also great for cool evening desert weather in Texas and New Mexico. Used on my travels there this winter.
