    COMMENTS:

I bought the previous version of this vest and was disappointed that it only lasted about 3 years before it started ripping at the pocket stitching. I like this vest a lot. However living in the southwest it promises to be too heavy for summer, but I will give it a try and see. I am going to order the Men's Ripstop Lightweight Working Man's Vest for summer here. In the tall sizing this vest more than adequately covers an inside the waistband holster for a firearm, which is exactly what i was looking for.

    COMMENTS:

I own several Duluth Trading vests, and lots of Longtail Ts, as well as bunches of other DT gear. I wear a vest with all my gear everyday when I leave the house, because it is so easy to keep everything in one place.

I have worn through the front pocket on all of my DT vests carrying a small, powerful tactical flashlight in the outside vest pocket. However, when it came to replacing my Everyday workingman's vest, I found out the new ones are synthetic fiber, not cotton! So I went searching, and found the Firehose vest was the closest thing matching the old vest, so I ordered it.

In my size (3X), this vest is shorter, and tighter, than the old vests. The pockets are arranged differently, smaller, and fewer in number than the old vests. And it has flaps over the breast pockets, which make it harder to use them for pens, pencils, and my flashlight. All of the other pockets also seem smaller, by a fraction of an inch. And the back mesh panel missing makes a major difference in cooling, which is an issues since I wear this year round as my outer layer here in Alaska.

Finally, the zipper seems to be much lighter duty than previously used in Duluth Trading vests, although it zips both ways--not a big issue with me since it is not long enough to need a zipper opening from the bottom. A heavy duty YKK or equivalent should be mandatory on any outerwear for this level of use (abuse?).

      COMMENTS:

I use a vest for travel. World Cruise and various South America loops. I need something with large pockets but fit loosely so that I don't get cramped when riding buses or other modes of transportation. I also use the vest exclusively for motorcycle trips. Need to carry all things in the vest. Secure the valuables yet make them available. This vest meets most of these requirements. More travel will reveal any flaws but right now I am pleased.

      COMMENTS:

Those of us that work in construction that are required to wear safety colors and reflection have limited options when it comes to vest. In the south polyester in not the best option. Cotton is great. The vest pockets are GREAT for storage. I modified the one I purchased. Tried to dye it yellow ( came out green) and added reflective stripes. The neck needs cushioning if you are wear it all day and have tons of stuff in the pockets. I would like to see an option to for the safety colors and reflection.

      COMMENTS:

The heavier weight fabric is welcome vs. the previous version. I kept getting wear holes and patching with cordura. It may be a little warm in the summer. This vest feels snugger than the old and more restrictive. Overall an improvement. It would be GREAT to have more colors.
