Smith Brothers Coffee House
Legendary Fish Sandwich Returns! At Smith Bros. Coffee House
Anyone in Port Washington old enough to remember the old Smith Bros. Fish Shanty Restaurant will remember the crowds of locals and tourists that came by the busloads to eat there for decades.
The draw? Fresh fish caught by the Smith Bros. fleet, fried up daily and served as their signature sandwich. People couldn't get enough of it.
For those hale folks who lived through that era – or any young whippersnapper who likes fresh fish, even if you've never heard of any daggone shanty – we have some exciting news: it's back!
Along with the store – and the updated Smith Bros. Coffee House inside it – Duluth Trading has brought back the sandwich enjoyed for decades in the same location. So stop in for a hot cup of Joe and the best fish sandwich you've ever wrapped your lips around.
Tender, delicious perch supplied by Ewig Bros. of Port Washington, it's fried and served with tartar sauce, just as it was in the glory years of the 1930s through the 1960s.
Of course, you'll also find traditional café fare including pastries, bagels and juice, cookies, coffee, sodas and sandwiches. Enjoy them by the fireplace, with historical photos on the wall, a view of Lake Michigan's prettiest marina right outside the window.
It's truly a taste of Port Washington – past and present – and it's only at Smith Bros. Coffee House inside the Duluth Trading Store.
