Chelsey grew up in the newspaper world, but it wasn’t until she discovered a forgotten 1923 Chandler and Price letterpress that she found her true calling. Chelsey threw herself into the mechanics and study of letterpress operation, taking classes, scouring everywhere for parts and tools – learning as much as she possibly could. After years of dedication, she got her business, Type-A Press, up and running full-time.
Now she spends her days covered in ink, working with her own two hands to make custom cards, invitations and other creations for local businesses.
But that’s not the end of Chelsey’s story – she’s recently refurbed an old industrial space and turned it into an event center in her hometown of McMinnville, OR. The Bindery – an homage to her family’s newspaper and printing roots – is the gathering space of her dreams, and it hosts everything from small photo shoots to corporate events to weddings and other community milestones. Her favorite part? “I get the chance to promote and support my community. I really love that!”
