Lanecia’s an artist based in Houston, TX. She uses different mediums to create abstracts with acrylics, oils, wax and fabric cyanotypes – even going so far as to mix her own paint from pigments she makes with found dirt, brick and stone.

She found her way back to art through a community project with the homeless in Houston. Empowering people who lived outdoors to express themselves through paint and brush reignited her childhood interests, and she saw firsthand the healing that can come through creation.

Lanecia is known for her hands-on methods, often foregoing brushes and palette knives altogether, opting instead for her own two hands. This tactile approach is integral to her artistic style – she uses the sun to print, dirt and brick to paint, fingers to sculpt in high relief on the canvas – it’s easy to see the love she painstakingly imbues into each and every piece.

“My advice to anyone who is afraid of doing what they really feel they want to do is to feel that fear – and wisely do it anyway.”
